عرّاف الصوت: حكايات غنائية من البحر الأحمر (2024) Echoes of Shells: Sounds of the Red Sea (2024)

أدى البحث الذي خضت ومازلت أبحث فيه، إلى ورشة عمل تجريبية استمرت سبعة أيام في حي جميل، جدة، حيث قاد الفنان آلان مارزو، وباحث الصوت أوليفييه ديبورت (مشروع فلي)، وأنا رحلة تجريبية إلى أعماق الصوت في منطقة البحر الأحمر. جمعت الورشة مجموعة متنوعة من الفنانين والموسيقيين والباحثين لاستكشاف المزيج المتنوع من الموسيقا التقليدية والمعاصرة، من الإيقاعات الحيوية للحياة العامة والخاصة إلى الألحان، والاحتفالات، والممارسات الموسيقية التي شكلتها المناظر الطبيعية الفريدة من جبال، وبحار، ووديان، ومدن في منطقة البحر الأحمر. من خلال التعاون بين التخصصات المختلفة وطرق البحث البديلة، دُعي المشاركين لإعادة تخيل وتوثيق هذه التقاليد الموسيقية، بينما استمرت شعلة الحوار مع المجتمعات المحلية حول قوة الصوت في الحفاظ على التراث وتحفيز التبادل الثقافي.

The research I have been conducting led to a bold, 7-day workshop held at Hayy Jameel, Jeddah, where I worked alongside artist Alan Marzo and sound researcher Olivier Duport (Flee Project). Together, we led an exploratory, process-based journey into the sonic histories of the Red Sea region. The workshop brought together artists, musicians, and researchers to listen closely to the subtle rhythms that shape private and public life, to the celebratory pulses of lullabies and gatherings, and to the musical practices formed by the landscapes themselves: the mountains, the sea, the valleys, and the city.

Through collaboration and alternative research methods, participants were invited to re-imagine these traditions, to document some of them, and to open a conversation with local communities about how sound preserves memory and moves culture forward. This work doesn’t end here; it continues as I expand on these findings, returning to the region’s sonic practices and their cultural resonance through ongoing research and writing.
